Sgt P.T. Blendowski

Sergeant Blendowski began his career with the Columbia Police Department in July 2002 after graduating from the University of South Carolina. As a patrolmen he was assigned to the North Region and joined the K-9 Unit in May 2004 where he was partnered with K-9 Jinx.  In 2006 he was promoted to the rank of Corporal and assigned to the North Region Community Response Team were he stayed until obtaining the rank of Sergeant in 2009. In April 2011 he was assigned to supervise the K-9 Unit and also serves as the teams trainer. Sadly in June 2012 after 8 years of service together his K-9 partner Jinx passed away from an unexpected medical condition. Sergeant Blendowski is now partnered with K-9 Basco who was acquired from Holland in 2012. Basco is a Belgian Malinois that came trained in the KNPV and is a titled PH-1. Basco is a full service K-9 and has been trained in tracking, drug detection, building search, criminal apprehension, and handler protection. Basco is a highly energetic dog that loves to work.

Cpl C.J. Waggoner

Corporal Waggoner is a U.S.C. graduate and has been a member of CPD since 2005.  She was named Rookie of the Year in 2006 and has served on the Community Response Team as well as the Drug Arrest Response Team.  Corporal Waggoner and Jazzy became members of the Canine Unit in 2009. In 2011 Corporal Waggoner was promoted to the rank of Corporal.  Jazzy is the City’s only Chocolate Lab and her primary focus is drug detection.

MPO J.A. Hardin

Mpo. Hardin began his career in law enforcement with the Columbia Police Department in August 2009.  He was assigned to Metro D squad for two and half years receiving rookie of the year for Metro region as well as obtaining Master Patrolman in 2011.  He joined the K-9 team was partnered with K-9 Amanda in June  2012.  Amanda is a Belgian Malinois who was acquired from Holland and is a full service K-9 trained in tracking, drug detection, building search, criminal apprehension, and handler protection.

MPO D.R. Labonte

Mpo. Labonte is originally from Massachusetts. Graduated from Dean Vocation Technical High School (Holyoke, MA) in 1986. Prior to joining CPD he served in the Navy, and was attached to several ships and traveled to numerous countries. He retired from the Navy and joined CPD in September 2006 and was assigned to the South Region. While assigned to South Region he was able to go to the following schools: radar, mobile data terminal, instructor, and finger printing. In August 2010 he joined the K-9 Unit and was assigned K-9 Scooter.  K-9 Scooter is a black Lab and Shepard mix.  The team is certified in tracking and drug detection.

Officer C.W. Newman

Officer Newman has 17 years of experience in law enforcement and also served 8 years in the United States Marine Corps.  Officer Newman began his career in law enforcement in 1997 in Manning, SC.  Officer Newman has worked in the areas of Patrol, Narcotics, and K-9.  In 2012 Officer Newman joined the Columbia Police Department where he was assigned to the South Region. In 2013 Officer Newman transferred to the K-9 Unit and was partnered with K-9  Rufus.  Rufus is a Dutch Shepherd that was acquired from Holland in 2013. Rufus in a full service K-9 trained in tracking, drug detection, building search, criminal apprehension, and handler protection.

MPO E.J. Walker

After serving nine years in the United States Navy, Master Patrolman Eric Walker began his law enforcement career with the City of Columbia Police Department in 2006. MPO Walker joined the K-9 Unit in June 2009 and was partnered with K-9 Bobo.  Bobo is a German Shepherd that was acquired by the Columbia Police Department in 2006. Bobo is trained in tracking, building search, criminal apprehension, and handler protection. Over the years Bobo has had numerous confirmed tracks that has led to capture and arrest of many criminal suspects.

Corporal M.W. Walsh

Corporal Walsh is a retired Army First Sergeant, who turned in his Army Greens for CPD Blues. Corporal Walsh joined the department in August 2006 and has been serving on the CPD K-9 team since April 2008, and was partnered up with Josephine. Sadly, Josephine passed in October 2011 of cancer. Corporal Walsh was then partnered up with Lenny Briscoe in November 2011. Lenny is a Black & Tan Bloodhound who sole focus is tracking criminals and missing persons. Corporal Walsh and Lenny continue to serve together as members of the K-9 team.

MPO J.S White

MPO White started his career with the United States Air Force in the winter of 2001 where he deployed overseas three times with the 169th Security Forces Unit. MPO White received several medals and highly decorated achievements while deployed with his unit. MPO White still remains in the Air Guard where he plans on finishing his military career. MPO White joined the City of Columbia Police Department in February 2007. While in the academy MPO White received the physical fitness award for his outstanding performance. MPO White has worked as a patrolman for two and half years prior to joining the K-9 Unit in August 2010 where he was partnered with K-9 Zena. Zena is a German Shepherd trained in tracking, building search, criminal apprehension, and handler protection.

Officer J.R Fitzpatrick

Officer Fitzpatrick started his career in Law Enforcement with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office in 1997. While at the Sumter County Sheriff's Office, Officer Fitzpatrick obtained the rank of Sergeant before deploying to Afghanistan in 2008 to train police with NATO. In March 2013, Officer Fitzpatrick joined the Columbia Police Department where he worked in various regions. In October 2013 Officer Fitzpatrick transferred to the K-9 Unit and was partnered with K-9 Jesse.  Jesse is a German Shepherd who was acquired from the Slovak Republic in 2013. Jesse is a full service K-9 trained in tracking, drug detection, building search, criminal apprehension, and handler protection.

Officer M.F. Fields

Officer Fields began his Law Enforcement career with the Columbia Police Department in March 2011 after serving 4.5 years in the Marine Corps as a designated marksman's and later graduated from Aiken Technical College with an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice. For two years Officer Fields was assigned to the North Region before joining the K-9 Unit in July 2013. Officer Fields was partnered with  K-9 Anna. Anna is a Dutch Shepherd that was acquired from Holland in 2013. Anna is a full service K-9 trained in tracking, drug detection, building search, criminal apprehension, and handler protection.
